“Walk humbly” is a description of the heart’s attitude toward God. To walk with God means we choose to glorify Him in every way we can, regardless of personal cost. Many people now think it’s a synonym for low self-esteem. Part 1 of 3: Understand the Concept 1. Give all of your heart and mind to God. Pay more attention to your own faults than to the flaws of others. Walking by faith means living life in light of eternal consequences. But like any other friendship, our friendship with God needs to be nurtured. Steps. By nature we are cut off from God, because we have sinned and turned our backs on Him. Look at it this way. As we will see, God’s signs and symbols were never meant to save, only to point to salvation by grace through God’s provision of a Messiah. God created us for fellowship with Him and He desires us to walk with Him (Micah 6:8). This paradox between being nothing and everything is the beginning of humility. Remember who’s in charge—and praise Him! 1. 1. How can we learn to walk humbly with our God? Follow Moses' example and discover the rewards of humility. Moses is pretty clear evidence that God’s definition of humility is different from what the world would have us believe. To be like Christ, we must follow His example of humility. The Holy Spirit assists believers in prayer (Jude 1:20) and “intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God… It is much more than that. If it isn’t, our relationship with God will grow cold, and we’ll no longer see God as our friend. He stood up to Pharaoh, dealt with the rebellious Israelites and spent 40 long years doing one of the toughest jobs in all of history. To walk in the Spirit is to walk in new life in Jesus Christ. He was moving the way God was going. Remember who’s in charge—and praise Him! They talk the whole time. Try not to watch yourself worship. 5. Your real value lies in God’s eyes, not in the eyes of the world. Psalm 90 is a good place to start. My wife, Marci, loves to go walking with her friend, Wendy. God honors us when we are humble, in part because we are open to His guidance. He wants to assure you that He is always with you, and He also wants to talk with you—and you with Him. Think about walking with someone in the physical world. It’s hard keep things in perspective if we don’t remember who is Lord! What does it mean to walk with God? Instead of taking pride in what we bring to God, we humbly recognize that no amount of personal sacrifice can replace a heart committed to justice and love. And there is a cost. 6. God longs to walk with you, which is why his arms of grace have been pulling you into a closer walk with him. First, it means he went in the same direction God went. For the most part, focusing on God and following His lead will keep you on the right path. 2. We have become God’s friend—and He has become our friend too! But Moses “was a very humble man, more humble than any man on the face of the earth” (Numbers12:3). Pray for a humble heart.
