Hera Agathon was the first human-Cylon hybrid to exist, born around 2000 or 2001. To this end, Boomer knocks out Sharon, seduces Karl (in full sight of a hidden and bound Sharon), who thinks she is his wife, and picks up Hera from the ship's daycare. Suddenly, with the shot clock down to 5, it darted past us for a slam dunk. Attempts at producing hybrids in "farms" on the occupied Colonies have all presumably failed in the early stages of gestation, if they ever got that far. Starbuck, Apollo, Helo, and Athena return to Galactica with Hera, but, after her father is shot by a Doral model, they lose track of her. A year after settlement, a Cylon fleet discovered the colony and placed the planet under a harsh martial law. Meanwhile, on Galactica, Karl and Sharon are devastated by their child's loss, with Sharon inconsolable and assuming Hera has already been dissected and killed by Cavil, but Karl, becoming increasingly unstable, still holds a shred of hope for seeing her again. (uncredited), Crewman in bar Sharo… Kara Thrace, who arrived earlier on Caprica to retrieve the Arrow of Apollo, leaves with Caprica-Valerii and Agathon in a captured Heavy Raider. Hera is among the survivors that settle on the new Earth, where she lives an agrarian and hunter/gatherer lifestyle with her parents in an area of Africa known later as Tanzania. Previous and other current attempts to create hybrids; most especially the forced cross-breeding experiments in the Cylon Farms met with complete failure, thus making the experiment necessary. She then tasks Samuel Anders to have two of his best men protect them at all costs, and later make sure they get off the planet. Attempts at producing hybrids in "farms" on the occupied Colonies have all presumably failed in the early stages of gestation, if they ever got that far. The subterfuge, Roslin presumes, is necessary to keep Agathon safe from humanoid Cylons that may be hiding in the Fleet (TRS: "Downloaded") [1]. Hera is sheltered by Roslin, and then by Caprica-Six and Baltar, who take her into CIC and protect her from Cavil, fulfilling the Opera House Prophecy.
However, Maya is killed during the evacuation of New Caprica (in the episode Exodus, Part 2). Some of her blood is donated to Laura Roslin, which helps treat her cancer to the point where she completely recovers (see "Epiphanies"). Hera Agathon would have so many descendants that they would go on to breed with people all across the entire world and eventually every person on Earth would be a direct descendant of Hera Agathon, meaning the entirety of humanity became partially of humanoid Cylon heritage. Hera appears to be comforted by her mother's presence.

This fact leads to Laura's decision to not have Athena's fetus aborted as she had previously ordered. They rebelled and evolved and now they look like us. This fact seems to be part of the "plan" of the Cylons who want to repopulate the human colonies with a new generation of hybrid beings. Agathon is born by emergency surgery one month premature.
Later, Starbuck realizes that the "stars" in Hera's drawing match up with the notes to "All Along the Watchtower" - the song that activated the Final Five. Once the Cylons learn of Athena's pregnancy, they decide the child must be protected at all costs and thus have impact on the Cylon agenda in pursuing the refugee fleet. Cavil reveals to Boomer, who was reluctant to leave Hera (and vice-versa), that he plans to dissect and study her to discover the secret of her creation and use it to allow the Cylons to have hybrid children on their own and save their species. These Colonials were called Celtans.
