There are several short trails that are worth trekking also. High above Grand Junction sits the Colorado National Monument. AMAZING!!! Highly recommend taking a detour here. Was pretty scary when it was raining along with the low guardrails, but insane views. Easy, beautiful scenic drive with so many twists and turns! The 23-mile drive follows the upper rim of a series of canyons, extending from the vicinity of Fruita, Colorado in the west to near Grand Junction, Colorado in the east, connecting points only eight miles apart in a straight line. Hiked 5 of the shorter hikes during the 5 hour drive on the way home. This monument is definitely underrated. Fabulous scenery. The trail is primarily used for camping, road biking, and scenic driving and is best used from April until October. Incredible views with some options for stopping off for pictures. Grand View & Artists Point are pulloffs that stand out. Absolutely amazing. Lot of overlooks and trails (done few shorter hikes). Rode Rim Rock Dr from the east entrance to the west entrance, and then finished the 'Tour of the Moon' loop via public roads Broadway, S Broadway and S Camp Rd. Largely built between 1931 and 1950, Rim Rock Drive climbs steeply from near the Colorado River and traces the rim of the plateau, providing unrivaled … Independence Monument View was my favorite viewpoint, but some of the single-car pull-offs towards Devils Kitchen are also worth a look. Much less crowded then many of National Parks. A ton of easily accessible overlooks are available throughout. This road can be scary & you're sharing it with bikes.
